The greeting sign for the members of Bitcoin New York by Spelunkin Magazine’s first Meetup session.

December 10th marked the start of Bitcoin New York by Spelunkin Magazine’s new “ground game” of hosting exciting cryptocurrency events in the New York City area. Located in a large conference space in the heart of Times Square, nearly 40 people came out to watch, participate in, and network at the historical inaugural session.

Big Turnout for Bitcoin!

A large crowd discusses the possible fates and futures of Bitcoin at the first Meetup.

The opening was soft, allowing the early birds to socialize and meet others with shared interests as more and more people continued to arrive. Then, David Moon (Co-Founder, Spelunkin Magazine) stepped forward and gave a brief welcome and turned the floor over to Gil Luria (Wedbush Securities) where he gave an interesting presentation about Wall Street’s perspective on Bitcoin and as well as its clear future potential. Following that, the floor was opened with questions submitted to Spelunkin when members of the Meetup RSVPed to the event. The questions ranged across many topics including anti-money laundering regulations, using alternative corporate-backed coins as a lending instrument, and some general discussion about Ethereum. By that time there were just 20 minutes left on the official schedule and so the general meeting was adjourned to allow for some post-meeting conversations and business card swaps between participants, many of whom were very positive about the quality and format of the event.
